ABOUT US
MISSION STATEMENT —
To promote academic excellence
To enable deserving residents of Rockville to pursue a college education
To encourage residents to become leaders in their professions and to lead
Rockville into the future
HISTORY —
The City of Rockville, Montgomery College, and the Rockville Chamber of
Commerce incorporated the Rockville Scholarship Foundation in 1985 as a not-for-
profit, charitable organization under section 501c (3) of the IRS Code.
Eligibility is open to residents in the corporate limits of Rockville; students at a
Rockville high school; and Montgomery College students (Rockville Campus). Nearly
75% of Chamber members contribute annually to the Foundation. The City of
Rockville, Montgomery College, as well as corporate and individual donations,
provide significant sources of funding.
ADMINISTRATION —
The Foundation is administered by a volunteer 13-member Board of Directors.
Four members are appointed by the Rockville Chamber, three by the City of
Rockville, three are appointed by Montgomery College, and three come from
the community. The Board decides policy, formulates fundraising, and is
responsible for the award process.
SELECTION PROCESS —
Applications are reviewed after a firm April 14 deadline, based on five categories — academic standing, integrity and character, community involvement, school
activities and financial need. Applicants are encouraged to provide other information as
deemed pertinent.
The award ceremony is typically held in June. The number and value of
scholarships vary annually.
